Welcome Elizabeth Vargas to Our Parish!

Elizabeth Vargas had spent years searching for peace in her life. Through struggles and questions, she began to feel drawn toward the Catholic Church, where she slowly discovered a deeper understanding of God—not as something based only on emotions, but as a call to surrender, even in difficult moments.
She began her preparation in December, entering OCIA with curiosity and openness. One of the first things that impacted her deeply was learning about the Virgin Mary for the first time, which she described as life changing. She also grew in her understanding of the Eucharist and came to appreciate the sacredness of marriage in the Catholic Church.
Although she felt a little nervous about becoming Catholic because it was so important to her, she also felt ready to step forward. Looking ahead, she is most excited about serving others, something she truly enjoys.
Her boyfriend, who serves as her sponsor, has been a major support throughout her journey, leading her by example. Along the way, she also worked through misconceptions she once had about the Church, including beliefs from her Protestant background, and came to a new understanding through her formation and OCIA classes.
While her family’s reaction has mostly been indifferent—though her father is supportive—she continued forward in her decision. Her first connection to the Church began at St. Mary’s Parish – Our Lady of Peace, where speaking with Fr. Boguslaw helped confirm, she was on the right path.
Overall, her religious education at the parish has been deeply edifying, giving her greater knowledge and understanding as she prepares to enter the Church at Easter.
