Mary Our Patron Saint

We are a Marian Parish. The Blessed Mother is the patron Saint for St. Mary Church and Our Lady of Peace. Mary is our role model for living a Christian life. We believe our devotion to our Mother Mary will encourage us to serve others and become closer to Jesus Christ.

Marian Parish FAQs

  • A Marian parish is a parish that looks to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a model of discipleship and faith.

     

    Mary shows us how to say “yes” to God, trust His will, and follow Jesus faithfully. Our parish is entrusted to Our Lady under the titles of St. Mary and Our Lady of Peace, so Marian devotion has always been part of our spiritual identity and life together.

  • Marian devotion means honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary and asking for her prayers. Just as we ask friends or family to pray for us, Catholics ask Mary—who is the Mother of God and our spiritual mother—to intercede for us.


    Common Marian devotions include:

    • The Rosary

    • Marian feast days

    • May crownings

    • Processions and prayers honoring Our Lady

  • Mary is important because she is the Mother of God and the first and most perfect disciple of Jesus Christ.


    True Marian devotion does not replace Jesus Christ. Instead, Mary magnifies our relationship with Christ. Her whole life points us to her Son.


    As Mary herself says in Scripture:
    "My soul magnifies the Lord" (Luke 1:46)


    Mary always leads us closer to Jesus.

    In a world that often struggles with faith, humility, and trust in God, Mary shows us how to live with faith, obedience, purity, courage, and surrender to God’s will.

    • Love for the Eucharist

    • Trust in God’s providence

    • A confident Catholic identity

    Mary never draws attention to herself. Instead, she directs us to her Son, just as she did at the Wedding at Cana when she told the servants:
    "Do whatever He tells you" (John 2:5)


    The Church has long expressed this truth simply:
    “To Jesus through Mary.”

  • Mary teaches us how to live the Christian life through her example of:

     

    • Faith in God

    • Humility

    • Purity of heart

    • Obedience to God’s will

    • Courage in suffering

    • Trust in God’s promises

    • Divine wisdom


    By imitating these virtues, we become stronger disciples of Jesus Christ.

  • Sacred images and symbols help remind us of the communion of saints and the history of salvation. Statues and images of Mary are not worshipped, but they help us remember her example and invite us to ask for her prayers.

    Just as people keep photos of loved ones in their homes, the Church places sacred images in our churches to remind us of those who have faithfully followed Christ.

  • The Rosary is a prayer that helps us meditate on the life of Jesus Christ through the eyes of His mother.


    While praying the Rosary, we reflect on the key mysteries of salvation:

    • The life and ministry of Christ

    • The Passion and death of Jesus
